PHILIPPINES, March 2010 -- CordLife, Asia Pacific’s largest network of private cord blood banks, recently announced the opening of the first cord blood processing and cryopreservation facility in Metro Manila, Philippines to bring the people of the Philippines the benefits of cord blood banking right at their doorstep.

Cord blood can be used for the treatment of more than 80 diseases including certain cancers and many other blood-related disorders. In fact, lymphoma and leukemia, both treatable with cord blood, are the top two childhood cancers in the Philippines. Leukemia is also amongst the country’s top 10 most common adult cancers. Other emerging applications with cord blood stem cells under active research include cerebral palsy and type 1 diabetes.
