ABOUT THE PHILIPPINE TRUST INDEX

The Philippine Trust Index (PTI) is EON’s proprietary research that culls insights and opinions of Filipinos from various socioeconomic, educational and demographic backgrounds hailing from urban and rural areas all over the country. The respondents shared their opinions about six key Philippine institutions – the Government, the Business Sector, the Media, Non-Governmental Organizations, the Church, and the Academe – to shed light on the levels and drivers of trust of the Filipino people.

When PTI was launched in 2011, the study delved into the levels and drivers of trust of the first five institutions. The study also looked into the communication channels and spokespersons most trusted by the Filipino informed public[1].

In 2012, EON and the Ateneo Graduate School of Business came together to expand the PTI to include the Filipino general public [2], as well as added the Academe as the sixth stakeholder group to be considered. The pool of respondents also expanded to encompass Filipinos in urban and rural areas in Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao.

EON endeavored to turn the conversation on trust even more robust in 2014 by exploring the reasons behind the trust ratings for the six stakeholder groups. The 3rd PTI measured the Filipinos' ratings of the institutions' performance vis-à-vis the trust drivers that were identified as important. EON gathered data from 1,626 respondents through face-to-face interviews in urban and rural areas nationwide.

For the fourth iteration of the PTI in 2015, beyond measuring the levels of trust in the country’s foremost institutions, EON sought insights and inputs from respondents across the country on the leadership qualities that are most important to them both in the private and public sectors. EON collected responses from 1,620 Filipinos, with 1,200 of which considered to be the Filipino general public and whose opinions were representative of the country's pulse. An additional 420 respondents were also added to come up with 600 respondents who were deemed representative of the Filipino informed public.

[1]Filipino Informed Publics are adult Filipinos aged 25 years and above, with educational attainment of at least 3rd year college, belong to economic class A to C, and access print, online and broadcast media at least thrice a week, on average. [2] Respondents include all Filipinos who are at least 18 years old.
